Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu
The art of "Human Chess"
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It was popularized in Brazil by martial artists who mastered and innovated grappling skills from Judo and traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, creating a specialized martial art in its own right. BJJ practitioners progress through a series of positions of increasing control and dominance from which they can deliver strikes (in self-defence applications) or submit their opponents (in sport applications). BJJ involves a variety of techniques, including break falls, escapes, sweeps, throws, joint locks, chokes, and submissions.
